ELMS

EUROPE’S MOST PRESTIGIOUS ENDURANCE COMPETITION

WHAT IS

ELMS?

With races on six Formula 1 circuits, the European Le Mans Series is arguably the continent’s most prestigious endurance racing competition. Inspired by the original Le Mans race, this elite series offer winners entry to next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and features teams from motorsport’s greatest marques.

ELMS’ FIA’s driver-grading system also makes it the perfect arena for amateur drivers to compete alongside the stars and secure a place on the Le Mans grid. This unorthodox format attracts an eclectic field, which includes well-known names like ex-Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica and Hollywood actor Michael Fassbender.

This year, Goodyear is the exclusive supplier to both LMP2 and LMGTE categories at the ELMS, as well as the LMP2 class in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and 24 Hours of Le Mans

WEC-SPEC -

Power and performance

At a glance, ELMS races look similar to the FIA World Endurance Championship, but there are some significant differences. The LMP2 prototypes head the three-class structure in ELMS, (alongside LMGTE and LMP3) battling for the overall win at the front of the field.

LMP2

Each of the 560 bhp LMP2 racers run on Goodyear, using the same tyre specifications as WEC.

LMP2 cars have similar characteristics to LMP1 WEC cars – including a carbon monocoque chassis. However, fewer modifications and developments are allowed, with all cars running on the same 4L V8 Gibson engine. This class is specifically for teams of independent manufacturers and/or engine suppliers.

LMP3

LMP3 is an entry-level prototype class intended for introducing young drivers and new teams to endurance racing before they progress to the higher classes of prototype racing. LMP3 cars feature a closed-cockpit design and are powered by a 5-litre, normally-aspirated Nissan V8 engine.

LMGTE

Goodyear is the exclusive tyre supplier to the Le Mans Grand Tour Racing Endurance category which includes modified variations of road cars. This class features a mouth-watering inter-marque battle between Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche, giving Goodyear the opportunity to showcase technologies for racing versions of some of the world’s greatest supercars.

RACE

FORMAT

Each of the ELMS races are four hours long, compared to the six, eight and 24-hour races in WEC. Nevertheless, at more than twice the length of a Formula 1 Grand Prix, they pose an immense challenge for drivers, teams and tyres. Racing on iconic European tracks such as Monza and

Spa-Francorchamps, as well as the top-grade circuits at Barcelona, Le Castellet, Red Bull Ring and Portimao, ELMS truly is the ultimate European endurance racing challenge.
